Common Viking Microwave Repair Issues
Doesn’t Heat
This issue is often related to the magnetron failing – the crucial component that generates microwaves. It can burn out due to power surges or simply wear out. The microwave will turn on but food inside won’t heat up. Diagnostics will show if the magnetron is working. Replacing or repairing it will solve the problem.
Uneven Heating
The cause may be a stuck or broken turntable motor or cracks in the glass tray itself. They should evenly distribute microwaves within the oven chamber. If not, one part of the dish gets overheated while another stays cold. The tray integrity and drive operation need checking, with faulty parts replaced as needed.
Sparking Inside
This dangerous situation indicates a short circuit from exposed wires or loose insulation. Voltage spikes, microwave leakage, and electric shock risks are possible. The unit should be unplugged immediately and a technician called to diagnose and repair. Sparking can destroy the oven or cause a fire.
Doesn’t Turn On
Causes can vary – from a blown fuse to a broken power supply. But often the fault is with door interlock switches that disable operation when opened. Dirt or mechanical damage can make them malfunction. The microwave “doesn’t understand”. Interlocks need testing and replacement if necessary.
Light Not Working
The cause may be a burnt-out interior bulb. But more often the lamp socket fails due to oxidized or corroded contacts. Sometimes the bulb is fine but the lighting circuit or power board is faulty.
Noisy Fan
Over time the exhaust fan starts making abnormal noises – humming, squeaking. This is due to worn motor bearings. Lubricating them or replacing the fan motor if worn out is needed.
